About Singalila Ridge Trek

Rhododendrons - The magnificent show of nature

February to April - These amazing flowers are seen almost all over West Sikkim. There are over 37 species of rhododendrons ranging from lower to high altitudes. The season to experience and enjoy the spectacular natural show of blooming of these flowers is purely nature-based.

The best suggested time is from February ending at lower altitudes to March-end under 3000M. Then April onwards, these flowers can still be found at higher altitudes up to 4000M in May also.

Uttarey - Five hours from Gangtok, Bagdogra Airport, New Jalpaiguri (N.J.P.) Railway Station and Siliguri, three hours from Darjeeling and Kalimpong and one and a half hours from Pelling ? Uttarey in extreme West Sikkim is the ?Virgin and Hidden Paradise on Earth?.

It is popularly known as the ?Base Camp of Adventure Tourism for the Singalila Range Eco-Tourism Trekking Trail Towards Khangchendzenga? and also an important ?Gate Way of International-Indo-Nepal Border Trade Route? through Chewabhanjyangla pass.

It is inhabited mainly by People from the Limboo Community and a small number of families from mixed communities like Bhutias, Chettris, Tamangs, Rais, Gurungs, and Lepchas. The landscape of the area is moderately sloppy and gentle valley unlike other locations in the west.

The educated youths of this village are actively into activities of the promotion of this little valley. Culturally and traditionally rich, Uttarey appears photogenic when bough wheat farms bear flowers and harvest takes place.

The village has schools, a health center, a library, a computer learning center, a community meeting place, shops, and nice eating places. Uttarey is coming up as a popular homestay destination.
