About Pin Parvati Trek (Kheerganga)

Pin Parvati Valley and Kheerganga Trek is a wonderful combination. However, this package takes you further through Kheerganga for the Pin Parvati Valley Trek. 

Pin Parvati Pass Trek is an alternative trekking route to the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh, which is counted among the most thrilling and challenging trekking trails in the country. The height of Pin Parvati Pass is 5,319 meters above sea level. The journey starts from Kheerganga trekking route. The Kheerganga trek is on its own is also a trekker's paradise. 

The journey starts from Kasol, which is a beautiful village located in the Kullu Himalayas at an altitude of about 9600 feet. The trek offers splendid views of the high altitude mountain lake, dense deodar forests and flower-filled meadows of the Parvati Valley. The best time to do this trek is from July to September. 

For this, it is necessary to have knowledge and skill of trekking. As you proceed for your trekking, you have to stop for the night at Mantalai Lake Base Camp. Mantlai is the source of the Parvati River; it can also be called the source of the beauty of Pin Parvati Valley. You can get spectacular and panoramic views of the peaks covered with a white blanket of snow at every turn. This trail is about 85 kms, and thus you complete the Pin Parvati trek of 8 nights and 9 days. 

The trek starts from Kasol, and covers several places of interest like Chakput, Manikaran, Barsani, Tunda Bhuj, Thakur Kuan, Mantalai Lake, etc. This itinerary takes adventurers on a journey that touches the heart, and remains etched in the minds of trekkers for a lifetime. Pin Parvati Trek Difficulty Level

The trekking journey from Kheerganga to Pin Parvati Pass is a difficult one. Pin Parvati is situated at an altitude of 5,319 meters and Kheerganga at 13,000 feet. There are many tricky sections during this trek, for which a knowledgeable guide is a must. However, if you are a medium grade experienced trekker, you can still do this trek.

Drive to Barsheni From Kasol/ Start Trek to Kheerganga (2850m/9350ft)
Kasol

We leave after breakfast from Kasol for Barsheni (22km/ 1:30hrs). We start todays trek which should take us 4 ? 5 hours. It is a pleasant walk through the forest with one short climb up to Kheer Ganga ? a pleasant little hamlet with a small temple of Lord Shiva and more hot springs. Overnight in a tent.

Kheer Ganga - Tunda Bhoj (3300M/5-6 Hrs)

We begin today with a steady climb up through the gorge before the valley widens and the trail crosses several beautiful pastures with many species of wildflowers. Along the way numerous Gujjar/Gaddi shepherd encampments can be seen; these will be the last settlements we will see till after the Pin Parvati Pass. Overnight in a tent.

Thakur Kuan (3570m/4-5 Hrs)

Todays trek is 16km and should take 4 ? 5 hours. In this section of the valley the trail is steep and quite hard in places traversing rocks and dense vegetation; however we may be rewarded with sightings of small Himalayan bears and snow leopards before arriving at our cliff top campground for the night at Thakur Kaun. Overnight in a tent.

Thakur Kuan - Odi Thatch (3700m/ 5-6 Hrs)

Leaving after breakfast today we head on the 12km walk to Pandu Bridge ? a natural rock bridge over the River Parvati. The terrain changes from the birch and conifer forests of the last few days to rocks and boulders as we head out above the treeline. Overnight in a tent.

Odi Thatch - Mantalai Lake (4100m/ 5-6 Hrs)

An undulating walk today of 15 km which should take us 6 ? 7 hours to complete - the trail crosses several flowered meadows culminating in a steep 200m climb over boulders to reach the glacial lake of Mantalai - source of the river Parvati. Overnight in a tent.

Mantalai Lake - Base Camp (4450m/5-6 Hrs)

Today?s trek should take us approximately 7hrs. Primarily crossing a landscape of terminal moraine and boulders and finding our way by following the many cairns - the walk offers excellent views of surrounding mountains, lakes and glaciers. It is a steep final ascent to Base camp but well worth the climb as our campsite is situated in a beautiful open valley and surrounded by glaciers. Overnight in a tent.

Base Camp - Pin Parvati Pass (5400m/6-7 Hrs) - Pin Valley

An early start is recommended as we climb up from Base Camp through the snowfields ? although not especially difficult the snow can make it quite hard going. After crossing the Pass, which is marked by cairns and prayer flags we enter the Spiti Valley ? one of the highest and remote inhabited places on earth. The initial descent is gradual through snow and ice fields where caution needs to be exercised due to hidden crevasses before we reach our campground for the night situated at the centre of three valleys. Overnight in a tent.

Pin Valley ? Chakput Maidan (3750m/5-6 Hrs)

Today?s walk is a gradual descent to the valley floor and the village of Mud - an enchanting little hamlet with a small gompa perched on a hill, which is where our campsite for the night is to be found. Overnight in a tent.

  • If the client is forced to cancel the booking prior to departure, the cancellation policy will be followed.
  • In case of any delay beyond our control, the client will have to bear extra cost for the extra days as per the option is chosen on per day basis.
  • Please note and be well informed that there will be no refund of money after the package commences and if one cannot complete the activity or gets sick enroute. 
  • The cost is for the entire package and there would be no refunds in case any part of the package is not availed.

  2. The booking is accepted on the understanding that you realize the potential risks and hazards that can be involved in the holidays of this kind. The organizer along with our leaders/guides and anyone else working in association with us cannot be held responsible for any death, accident or mishap that may occur in connection with any part of, or services connected with the holiday.

Before the guests come on a holiday, they must be covered by insurance, which has to include the cost of helicopter rescue, evacuation and cost of repatriation if they become too ill to continue.
