Majuli's Attractions & History - Majuli Island in the northeast state of Assam, India is the largest inhabited river island in the world and has been the most important cultural center of Assam since the 16th century. Majuli sets apart from the rest of the world because of its unparallel exquisiteness and prosperous culture. Amidst the massive Brahmaputra River, this island is a massive area of 352 sq km.
It has many small villages within and seems like a world of its own where life is slow as compared to the rest of the world with peace prevailing all around. It has an old-world charm with people living in bamboo huts and still cooking food on fire with a lot of diverse wildlife and uninterrupted harmony with mankind. The locals are simple hospitable wearing colorful clothes. Majuli Island is an amazing place for bird watching, cycling, and walking. A lot of local and migratory birds can be seen.
Kamlabari Satra
For hundreds of years, Kamalabari has been a center of art, culture, literature exuding the charm of beautiful design. The walls are decorated with stunning elaborate designs. The terrace is adorned with glorious paintings of deities that echo the cultures of Assam.
Auniati Satra
is famous for its collection of contemporary art, jewelry, and pottery. This iconic statue has a superb architectural structure consisting of lion statues on each side. Dances and songs performances are regular at this place.
The Heritage Village Visit
Inhabited by agricultural and tribal communities, one can explore its beautiful culture and traditions. Along the streets, one can see villagers weaving handicrafts and the region is famous for it.
Best Season to Visit Majuli
Winters are the best time to visit, starting in October and ending in March. The climate here is calm and pleasant, nature is at its best here.
