Overview

Sunderdhunga Glacier, Maiktoli Base Camp Trek

One of the spectacular destinations of Uttarakhand is the Sunderdhunga glacier trek which is 5 km away from Kathlia Base Camp. Sunderdhunga glacier trek is a great choice for trekkers. It is one of the most attractive and beautiful glaciers of Uttarakhand. The trek is a moderate walk through dense woodlands, valleys, and hamlets in the valley.

Mt. Maiktoli is the 32nd highest peak in the Kumaon Himalayas of Uttarakhand standing tall at 6,803M (22,320 ft). The highest peak in the Kumaon Himalayan range is Mt Nanda Devi. The Maiktoli glacier at the base of the peak is the cradle of the Sunderdhunga River from which the river originates. We trek to the footpath built on the banks of the Sunderdhunga River. One can also combine this trek with the Pindari Glacier trek

.
Maximum Altitude:  Sunderdhunga Glacier 12,500 ft
Difficulty Level: Moderate
Best Season: March - June/ September mid - November

Best Time To Visit Maiktoli Base Camp Trek

The best time to visit Sunderdhunga Glacier is from March to June, the weather is clear these days. The second-best months are from September to November. These days the weather goes cold and it starts snowing as we move towards December

July - mid-September - trekking should be avoided from mid-July to mid-September as monsoon prevails these days. There is a risk of landslides during the rains in the mountains. Also, avoid the peak summers of May and June as it may get crowded with trekkers.
