(GHNP)
The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), which is located in Kullu region in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The park established in 1984, is spread over an area of 1171 km2 . The altitude varies from 1500M to 6000M and the National Park is a habitat to numerous flora.
Over 375 fauna species, consisting of 181 birds, 9 amphibians, 11 annelids, 3 reptiles, 17 mollusks, 31 mammals and 127 insects are home to this park. This valley is tucked away from the Kullu valley and provides the beautiful landscape of the Himalayas. It is a popular place for natural lovers and trekkers. Here you get a better experience of camping and trekking, and you can also see many Himalayan birds.
The Great Himalayan National Park is spread across four valleys. The 4 valleys namely are Tirthan, Sainj, Parvati & Jiwa Nal valleys. All the valleys offer a wide variety of exotic flora and fauna. Trekkers can embark on various treks in the valleys suitable for amateurs as well as experts. The Tirthan Valley name comes from a sacred water spring called irthan. It originates at the Hanskund Peak (4800m) which is the feeder channel to Tirthan River almost all round the year. The Parvati Valley starts at Bhuntar in Kullu District.
The altitude goes up to 5000m of height rising from the Parvati River. Many tributaries feed the main Parvati River in the valley and innumerous waterfalls cascade down. In the Sainj Valley, the Sainj River flows past a series of spurs and it widens as it travels southwest. It joins the River Beas at the village Larjispread over around 90 sq. kms. Jiwa Nal Valley nestles along the Jiwa Nal River and lies next to Sainj Valley and the source of the river is a small lake called Sartoo fed by glacial and snowmelt water. Most of the treks in Jiwa Nal Valley begins at Sisund, around 35kms from Aut.
Best Time to Visit Great Himalayan

The best time to trek in the Great Himalayan National Park is from March to June and October and November. At this time the days are soft, and the nights are cold due to light rain. Apart from this, if you have a good experience of trekking, then you can do this trek even in winter. These days the valley is completely covered with snow.
Note - By the way, each trek is advised not to do it on rainy days. Similarly, the Great Himalayan National Park trek is also unsafe during the rainy days. Sometimes there is so much rain here, there is a possibility of landslides.
How To Reach The Great Himalayan
National Park, Himachal Pradesh
By Air - The nearest airport to the Valleys is Bhuntar in Kullu. The valley is about 50 kilometers from this airport. From here you can easily get a local bus and taxi to the valley.
By Train - The nearest railway to the valleys is the Chandigarh railway station. The distance to the railway station is about 250 km from the valley. You can come to Chandigarh and come to the valley by bus or taxi.
By Road - If you are going through your car, then you have to reach Mandi first. After this you continue on to Manali highway. After driving about 35 to 40 kilometers, you get to the town of Larji before a tunnel which is the gateway.
