About David Scott Trail History
David Scott was a British Administrator and political agent to the British Raj. The David Scott Trail is a Pony-cart trail that he built from Cheerapunjee to Bangladesh. The trial caused a war between the Khasi people, led by U Tirot Singh, king of the Khadsawphra Syiemship, and the British. U Tirot Singh was defeated by the British in the war and was captured and deported to Dhaka (Now the capital of Bangladesh)
It is spread across 100km but the route that is used for trekking is a 16 km hiking route stretching from Mawphlang to Lad Mawphlang.
Separating the Assam valley from the plains of Bangladesh, hilly Meghalaya (the abode of clouds) is a cool, pine-fresh mountain state set on dramatic horseshoes of rocky cliffs. Cherrapunjee and Mawsynram are among the wettest places on Earth; most of the rain falls between June and September, creating very impressive waterfalls and carving out some of Asia longest caves.
