Overview

Chandranahan Lake Trek

The Valley of the Pabbar river is accessed from Theog on the Hindustan Tibet Road and Rohru (131 Kms from Shimla) is its main town. It is also a good location for trout fishing, sightseeing, and trekking in the area. Lying in the lap of virgin nature below the breathtakingly beautiful Chanshal mountain range, the Pabbar Valley is a haven for offbeat travelers and lovers of nature and adventure. This trek takes you through tall standing forests, the lush green alpine meadows of Dayara and Litham thatch, a serene-looking Chandranahan lake, before bringing you to the high altitude terrain of a Himalayan Pass. Chandranahan Lake lies in the Chanshal range and is fed by a series of natural springs. Surrounded by snow for long periods, it is the source of the River Pabbar.  The Pabbar River is the westernmost river that drains east to the Ganges. The trek over the pass is difficult but enjoyable and well rewarded at the end.

Shimla is the capital of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is bounded by Kullu in the north, Kinnaur in the east, and the state of Uttarakhand in the south-east. In 1864, Shimla was declared as the summer capital of British India. It is home to a number of buildings that are styled in Tudorbethan and neo-Gothic architectures dating from the colonial era. Attractions include the Viceroy Lodge, the Christ Church, the Jakhoo Temple, the Mall Road, and the Ridge, which together form the city center. The Kalka?Shimla Railway line built by the British, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also a major tourist attraction.

Best Season to Visit Chandernahan Lake
The Chandernahan Lake Trek shows a landscape similar to Switzerland and the Alps. The spectacular view of the picturesque snow-capped mountains and meadows in the background will leave you spellbound. Summer onwards is the best time to visit Chandernahan Lake. Mid-April to mid-November is considered the best time, during these months the weather remains very pleasant and the atmosphere is neither too hot nor too cold. There are less chances of rain during the monsoon season in this region hence this trek is favourable even in the months of July & August. There is a lot of snowfall in this trek before July, where the mountains are covered with a white pearl layer of snow and the lakes are brimming to the top.
